Story of Mr. CAS

Mr. Cas, an extravagant gentleman who lived in Güney Palas was an unconventional character for his time. He resided in one of the most elegant buildings in the most fascinating part of the City, Pera, and organised extraordinary parties and gatherings for the upper crust of Istanbul’s society.

His distinguished lifestyle and exceptional taste were reflected in his famous parties and he was a centre of gravity for a spectacular guest list as well as fantastically illustrious characters.

The atmosphere, the food, the service, the music and most importantly, the host, played the most important role in those events.

His parties were extremely prominent events in the social calendar of the City. The invitees started preparing for the event weeks in advance, hoping to be in as impeccable an attire as the host himself. And on the day of the magnificent event, the guests would start arriving in their wonderfully tailored suits and dresses of the latest fashion, exquisitely made up and coiffed, wearing the most expensive perfumes and furs…

Mr. Cas Hotels is here to continue the tradition of hosting distinguished ladies and gentlemen in their journey discovering the beautiful city, with a touch of understated luxury, sophisticated style, charming and discreet service.

Güney Palas Building

Güney Palas opened its beautiful wrought iron doors in December 1900 and it immediately started attracting the most creative and stylish people in the City. Artists, couturiers, milliners, designers, poets, writers, movie and stage directors, actors and their followers all found refuge here.

The Palace soon became renowned for extravagant private parties where movie moghuls and stars could be spotted regularly. The tales and the gossip of such events would keep and entire city busy for months.

The priceless original design details of the Palace have been preserved in perfect condition until today. Our guests will enjoy beautifully painted ceilings and walls in the classical style while the interior design gently nestles in the Art Nouveau period.

Mr Cas has halls of mirrors, hand painted glass doors, hand carved panelling, 125 year old detailed plasterwork, a marble staircase going through the building as if it was built on air…

Our guests will have the chance to live in the times past with the luxuries of today.

Yıldırım Mayruk
Petite – Haute Couture Museum

For more than 10 years, Güney Palas hosted the ateliers of Yıldırım Mayruk, Turkey’s most famous couturier, as well as the most sought after milliners of his time, Signor Emilio. The attraction they created was so strong that the distinguished ladies of Istanbul used to call Güney Palas “Tailors’ Apartments”.

Mr Mayruk kindly contributed to the original design of Mr Cas uniforms and will always be an inspiration to the establishment.

In honour of his landmark status in classic Turkish haute couture, deep connection with Güney Palas and generous contribution to Mr Cas Hotels, we have curated a petit-museum in his name.

We hope that our guests take time to walk bu and experience the most delicate handcraft of decades past, appreciate the exquisite sophistication and masterful execution of high fashion in Istanbul.

The museum is open for everyone, including guests who are not staying at the hotel, between 10:00 and 18:00 everyday.

The Neighbourhood

Mr. Cas is resides in a beautifully restored, Grade II listed historical building, standing tall in the middle of, perhaps the most widely known street in Istanbul, İstiklal Caddesi.

Previously known as Rue de Pera, the street and its surrounding area host some of the best restaurants, bars, galleries and museums, art centres and entertainment venues in İstanbul. İstiklal Caddesi, with Atatürk Cultural Centre and Taksim at one end and the famous Galata Tower at the other, is quite literally the beating heart of the City.

When you stay at Mr. Cas Hotels you are simply in the midst of art, culture, shopping, entertainment and history. It just doesn’t get any better.

ISTIKLAL STREET

This is where it all happens; Labour Day protests, Women’s Movement marches, Pride Parade, Animal/Human Rights protests, rallies of one fraction or another… You will see a politician here shaking hands with their voters, the district mayor talking to the shopkeepers, listening to their problems, models posing for the coming addition of Vogue, actors in front of the cameras for the latest episode of a famous Netflix series.

Architecture is varied, from early 19th Century to the most contemporary. However most buildings are from mid 19th to early 20th centuries, lovely Art Nouveau, decorative late Baroque, a few cubist blocks, Victorian passages, beautiful palaces of foreign consulates with their perfectly manicured garden make İstiklal an open air museum where over a million people walk through everyday.

İstiklal (Liberty) Street is a unique experience with its churches, mosques, wine cellars and ale houses, fashion stores and Turkish delight vendors with their colourful shop windows. All there, a feast for the soul, for our guests to enjoy.
